7 Iglesia Santa Clara
Alberto Cruz Covarrubias, architect.
Santa Elisa 50, La Cisterna.
This church, designed by Alberto Cruz and the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso team of architects (famous for its creative freedom, the relevance given to poetics in architecture, and the importance of the collaborative work in the process of design and construction), is one of the final stages in a long search for the ideal liturgical space, one that facilitates the personal disposition for religious ceremony, without pretense regarding the value of the material context. That explains the use of cheap materials in the interior, like a simple steel open truss structure, leaving the fluidity of interior space the responsability of making for the minimal conditions towards the communitarian gathering in the eucharistic ceremony.
