4 Banco del Estado
1952
Héctor Mardones Restat, architect.
Av. Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins 1111, Santiago.
The Banco del Estado main building answers simultaneously to two different normatives, that of the Barrio Cívico and the one for the Alameda, as can be seen on the corner of Bandera street. That vertical body stands as a signal for the main entrance and a disruption of the rational, repetitive windows of the facades. The solid volume reminds us of the severe regulations of the downtown blocks, successfully followed along the centric streets. The use of the building’s image as the logo of the Banco del Estado is a signal of the strong identification between the institution and its headquarters.
